As we know, global warming has been accelerating melting of the snow that blanketed the place. In addition to global warming, researchers now find another cause, namely the warming of sea water under a layer of ice.
Jianjun Yin of the University of Arizona and other co-investigators found that the effect of warming the water beneath the ice is more dangerous than warming the atmosphere. Since water has a greater heat capacity than air. This makes the polar ice caps melting faster than expected and potentially increase the height of sea water. If the ice is floating in the coastal area of melt, the glacier will flow faster and are carried to the sea ice also will be many more. It just means that Greenland and Antarctica will melt faster. This study adds to growing evidence that sea level will rise at least 1 meter at the end of this century. Results were published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
